Born in Carmarthenshire, Emyr graduated from Cardiff University with a degree and masters degree in music. He spent the first 15 years of his professional career working as a Head of Music at two schools – one in Bury and the other in Manchester. In January 1994 he returned to Wales to take up the post of Music Adviser for Dyfed. He worked in an advisory capacity for nearly 22 years, his role gradually evolving to a more general educational one. Since retiring in September 2015 Emyr has returned to his first love of music. He is a trained singer with extensive solo experience and has a wealth of conducting expertise, refined over his 30 years of directing choirs and orchestras at children, youth and adult level.
