Victoria Primary School, Penarth

Report on the Time after Time Goldies CYMRU event at Victoria Primary School, Penarth, on Wednesday 3rd December 2014, by Emlyn Schiavone, Goldies Cymru schools co-coordinator.

An invitation was received from Mrs Debbie Haddon who is Community Coordinator for Victoria Primary School and fifteen members of the Penarth Goldies CYMRU daytime singing session were invited to the school for a Time after Time afternoon.

Transport was arranged to enable the older people to attend the school and Rachel Parry our programme leader for Goldies CYMRU also attended.

We were also delighted that Grenville Jones, Goldies founder, was able to attend and meet with the teachers and children.

The school has over five hundred children and many of them participated in the afternoon of song.

The Goldies were entertained by key stage two children dressed in Victorian costume. They sang beautifully and were led by their music teacher Clare. One very special item was ‘Walking in the Air’.

Over one hundred reception children then packed the hall and sang with their older guests, a mass choir singing ‘Away in a Manger’ representing ages from five to ninety-five… very moving.

The Goldies chatted with the children and tea and biscuits were served by the teaching staff who were so receptive to their visitors throughout the afternoon.

Our thanks go to Tina Taylor, head teacher at Victoria Primary School, and Debbie Haddon and we were delighted to receive an email from Mrs Taylor the following day saying that the school would like to continue the links with the Goldies Charity and "explore the different ways in which we can work together”.
