Heol Goffa - VE Day Celebrations

Time after Time event at Heol Goffa Special School on Friday, 8th May, 2015.

Report by Emlyn Schiavone, Time after Time Project Manager

The event was held at the school to commemorate VE Day. Grandparents and older persons from the neighbouring community were invited to join the pupils in the celebration, including a group from the local Care Home.

The hall was decorated with flags and bunting.

The pupils and guests enjoyed a buffet lunch with a selection of sandwiches and cakes.

Lynda Evans introduced Katie Lewis as the session leader for the afternoon. The school had prepared a booklet of appropriate songs including 'There'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover' , 'Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye', 'Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag' , 'It's a long way to Tipperary', 'Keep the home fires burning' and 'A Perfect Day'

The pupils and guests sang with great joy and enthusiasm. There was also spontaneous dancing, notably to the Beatles song 'Twist and Shout'. Katie distributed some percussion instruments and these were gratefully received by the children.

The guests and children were thanked for their active participation. Further events will be arranged in due course. One of the residents from the local care home commented as she left :-

"Thank you for inviting me to a wonderful party. Please invite me again"
